MIDICraft Compositions and Arrangements

Information about the MIDICraft Collection on the
Weird Science Multi Media Tool Kit #2 CD ROM
This directory contains a wealth of Music-X and MIDI musical data and
utilities, probably the most extensive you'll ever likely to see.. It
represents three years work of arranging Music-X and MIDI music on the
Amiga Computer platform. The Music-X music was, where possible and this is
in most cases, transcribed from the actual published music. The fully-
scored arrangements, however, are our own! This directory also represents a
dedicated collection of both Music-X and MIDI Public Domain utilities that
are both rare and which took a great deal of time and effort on our part to
compile. A considerable amount of text articles on Music-X and MIDI are
also included in this MIDICraft collection, some are from Public Domain and
INTERNET sources and some, which were originally published in the Amiga
Musicians Freeware Magazine (AM/FM) or the MIDICraft Magazine, we've
written ourselves unless otherwise stated by the original author..
The Music-X performance files, Synth Protocols, Synth Libraries and Music-
X Utilities are specifically for the Music-X V1.0, V1.1 and V2.0 Sequencer
on the Amiga computer platform. The Music-X perf files (all in GM format 1)
can load into both Music-X and the Notator-X notation packages.. The
Music-X performance files, which on AmigaDOS can employ their full length
character names, has followed this convention. ie. OwnerOfALonelyHeart.perf
The MIDI files which are all in GM format 1 where produced using the Music-
X V1.1 and V2.0 sequencer on the Amiga computer; they originally started
out as Music-X performance files and have been converted and named
according to the MSDOS equivalents using the 'eight.three' convention to
facilitate directory reading on multi platforms such as the PC and Apple
MAC etc. ie. SACRFICE.MID
In converting the Music-X performance files to MIDI files we have strived
to produce standard MIDI data types containing the conventional GM MIDI CTL
and PGM parameters etc! The MIDI files therefore, are "generic" and as such
will load into any sequencing software which possess an import .MID
feature. On the Amiga, programs such as Bars and Pipes and Dr. T's KCS
will load these files and there's many sequencers and Notation
software packages on the PC, MAC and Atari platforms which will load these
files... Moreover, if you copy the MIDI files to an MSDOS formatted floppy
disk then they will port to a MIDI synthesizer/Workstation with
sequencing capabilities and external hardware MIDI Players/Data filers
etc..
The "Freely distributable" Public Domain MIDI utilities are specifically
for the Amiga computer and all the original authors' documentations and
copyrights have been retained as the authors themselves intended.. Some of
the utilitites included in this collection are shareware and as such you
are obliged to register with the author and or programmer of such software!
The various documentation in this directory and in the subsequent sub-
directories explains in detail everything concerning the data types, what
they're for, there usage and all you need to know to exploit the files in
the MIDICraft collection! All the accompanying documentation comes in many
forms but is generally ASCII.. For the Amiga the documentation is
"generic" ASCII and is read directly via the MuchMorePowerPacker text
reading utility or we've edited the documents to exploit the AmigaGuide
"Hypertext" reader and these documents will of course contain '.info'
files, commonly known as icons. You simply click on these icons to read
the files and it will subsequently load via whatever text reader the
file has been designated.
For MSDOS users then the ASCII text files have been duplicated where
possible and re-named employing the same eight.three character string file
name as used with the MIDI files.. MSDOS users can of course read the
ASCII AmigaGuide documents via a typical MSDOS generic ASCII text reading
utility.
